There are certain key books that will always be sought after in the world of comic books. For Spider-Man, it generally comes down to two separate books. His first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15, followed by his second appearance -- and the first of his own series -- in Amazing Spider-Man #1. It was this second book that walked in the doors on "Pawn Stars" (Mon., 10 p.m. EST on History).
Jeff received Amazing Spider-Man #1 as a wedding present from his brother-in-law. For a comic book fan, this is quite simply one of the best presents they could ever receive as it only gets better and more valuable with the passage of time, though it wasn't clear if Jeff was a comic fan or perhaps his brother-in-law.
Because comic book collecting is a specialty market, Corey brought in an expert to appraise Jeff's book. After examining the book, the appraiser said he would grade this copy as Fine- or Fine+, which is a mid-level grade in the industry. But even at that grade, the book would easily fetch $6,000 to $7,000, and possibly more with an enthusiastic buyer. For Jeff, it was an easy decision to sell it to Corey for $4,000, taking home a nice chunk of change, and leaving Corey plenty of room for profit.
