Google flexes its muscles with gay rights campaign

?What did we ever do before Google?? must be one of the most frequently asked questions in the world today. ?But the question, ?what is Google doing with all its power?? may start to crop up quite a lot too.

Last weekend it announced that it is taking more of an active role in human rights with the launch of Legalize Love, an initiative that seeks to ensure equality in the workplace for gay, lesbian and transgendered people.

While it plans to spread the program to every country where it has a presence (are there any countries left where it doesn?t?) it has chosen Poland and Singapore as the starting points as it says they both have laws that are homophobic.

?Singapore wants to be a global financial center and world leader and we can push them on the fact that being a global center and a world leader means you have to treat all people the same, irrespective of their sexual orientation,? said a spokesman.

Push them how, we can?t help wondering? They certainly have the clout to push even an entire trading nation very hard indeed. ?We?ll watch this with interest.

What do you think? Please feel free to add your comment.
