Paula Radcliffe to have operation on injured foot ... - BBC World News

Paula Radcliffe hopes to undergo surgery at the end of this month on the foot joint which forced her to withdraw from the Olympic marathon at London 2012. Paula Radcliffe was ruled out of the London Olympics with an ongoing foot injury (Picture: PA) Radcliffe revealed she had ?cried more tears than ever? after admitting defeat in her battle against osteoarthritis in her left foot. The 38-year-old had been hoping to claim a first Olympic medal in her fifth Games, having finished fifth in the 5,000m in Atlanta, fourth in the 10,000m in Sydney and suffering despair in the marathon in 2004 and 2008. Although her Olympic career is now over, Radcliffe insisted she will carry on running. ?The joint is pretty degenerated but I am getting surgery on it later this month and then I will be able to run on it again,? she said. ?It?s going to be a long process but it will work out. ?I need to get a bone graft and a cartilage repair done on it.?
