Kabir stresses need for new approach to cyber laws ...

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court Judge and Executive Chairman of National Legal Services Authority, Mr Justice Althamas Kabir, has emphasized the need for a new approach to cyber laws and felt that the meeting would find answers to more vexed questions relating to cyber terrorism.

Delivering inaugural address at the two-day Regional Consultation meet on Cyber Laws jointly organized by the National Legal Services Authority and Andhra Pradesh State Legal Services Authority at Dr MCRHRD Institute, Mr Justice Althamas Kabir said that the cyber laws were necessitated due to instances of cyber crime and cyber terrorism cases in the county.

The Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Mr Justice Nisar Ahmed Kakru, expressed his anguish over lack of adequate mechanism to combat the challenges arising in the field of e-commerce and data protection. He also advised the experts to prepare modalities for expanding the definition of cyber crime in the light of emerging trends in the technology.

The High Court Judge and Executive chairman of APSLSA, Justice B. Prakasa Rao, in his welcome address, explained the need of an effective Legislation in substitution of the present Information Technology Act and called upon the delegates to have a meaningful deliberation on the Jurisdictional issues in Cyber space.

The Minister for Law, Mr E. Pratap Reddy, assured implementation of recommendation made by the conference and called upon all the agencies to have a coordination for effective enforcement of Legislation.

The Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Mr Justice Gopal Gouda, and the Chief Justice of Guhawati High Court, Mr Justice Madan B. Lokur, also participated in the meet. (NSS)
