INGOLSTADT, Germany ? Audi has revealed the new range-topping model for its Q5 lineup, the SQ5 TDI. The first S model to receive a diesel engine, the new SQ5 is powered by a 3.0-liter TDI biturbo V6 rated at 313 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque between 1,450 and 2,800 rpm.
Audi says the new SQ5 TDI sprints from zero to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds, with a top speed of 155.34 mph. An eight-speed Tiptronic transmission coupled with Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system helps the SUV earn just over 32 mpg.
The SQ5's sport suspension lowers the body by 1.18 inches, and the standard 20-inch wheels wear 255/45 tires, with 21-inch wheels as optional.
Exterior touches include front black brake calipers with S badging, a platinum gray single-frame grille, roof spoiler, modified bumpers, high-gloss paint around the windows and aluminum-look exterior mirrors.
Inside the cabin, S badging continues from the instrument panel to the gearshift lever and door sills, and a specially shaped steering wheel replaces the standard Q5 equipment. Pearl napa leather with Alcantara comes standard, or buyers can choose one of four optional leather colors instead.
The Audi SQ5 TDI goes on sale in Europe early next year. An Audi spokesman says an official date has not yet been set for U.S. sales.
Inside Line says: A diesel SUV that goes from zero to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds? Bring on the TDIs, please.
