Nico Rosberg says Mercedes still lack some pace ? Formula 1 news

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that they still lack some pace in their car after the Friday practice of the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix held at Yas Marina Circuit.

Rosberg said that although they struggled during the first two practice sessions, but they are still looking forward to come up stronger in the qualifying and this weekend?s race.

The Brackley based team has not been able to attain good results in the last three races as they have shifted their focus on the development of next year?s car. Moreover, they have faced tyre degradation issues and some technical problems in the season so far.

Nonetheless, the 27-year-old has said that they are targeting to resolve the ongoing issues and are eying to fight back in the remainder of the season.

?Unfortunately we are still lacking some pace but I hope that we can achieve some points with good strategy tomorrow and on Sunday,? he said. ?Generally tyre degradation is not as big as last year, so it will be interesting to see how race turns out.?

On the other hand, his teammate, Michael Schumacher has said that they were able to gather the necessary information about their update package during the practice sessions and are trying their best to make the essential advancements to improve the pace of their car. In addition, he said that they are planning to score reasonable points in the race ahead.

?Today we saw what I would call a 'normal' Friday, doing certain programmes, changing set-up and typical data collection work. What we saw at end of day is probably where we are, so a pretty realistic picture. At the moment we are driving to finish in points, and that is what we will target for weekend,? Schumacher said.

Besides, the team principal, Ross Brawn said that they are working on making the substantial step-ups in their car so as to qualify for a higher grid slot to have a competitive start on the race day. He also said that their main focus is on developing the right tyre strategy for Sunday.

Let?s see how the Silver Arrows perform in the remainder of the season.
