Women's self defense course teaches, raises funds for Fort Collins ...

A self-defense class for women was held in the Columbine Suites in the University Center on Friday. Students were led by Martial arts instructors, all of whom were various colored belts; some even third degree black belts.

Shelby Wax, the main instructor of the Fight Like A Girl program that is run out of her martial arts studio, Alpha Martial Arts. It was free for women ages 10 and up, donations were accepted.

All proceeds went directly to help the Crossroads Safehouse, a place for victims of domestic violence and abuse. The seminar was sectioned into halves; the first focused on specific techniques for defense while the second focused on situations women could face if attacked.

The situations varied in intensity, and gave participants a chance to practice self defense moves to protect themselves from potential attacks.
