Eastern Idaho mayor to end 28-year run

SODA SPRINGS, Idaho (AP) -- Soda Springs Mayor Kirk Hansen says he's ending his 28-year run leading the eastern Idaho town.

Hansen tells the Idaho State Journal (http://bit.ly/132t498 ) he won't run for an eighth term this fall.

Hansen operates Hansen Oil, providing petroleum-based products such as gasoline, diesel fuel and lubricants.

He says his business is doing well but at age 65 he has some health issues.

Hansen says being mayor has allowed him to channel his extra energy into something different from his day job.

He says he's most proud of keeping the city on sound financial ground.

He also says he's proud of the city's parks and a $12 million waste water treatment plant that will serve the city for many years.
